Florence Peake / Eve Stainton

04 May 2019 | Florence Peake | Eve Stainton | Venice Biennale

At rather short notice we’ve put together a soundtrack for Florence Peake and Eve Stainton for Apparition, Apparition at the Venice Biennale 2019. It draws on 25-year-old source material from Listen/Move which we fortunately archived over from the original 1990s ADAT multitrack tapes a few years ago.

Apparition Apparition (2019) explores the notion of materiality and the nature of our physical selves/bodies within the frame of ecological devastation. Proposing ‘a dig’ as a site for manifestation, reflection and activity, and excavation as a releasing of apparitional states, Peake and Stainton endeavour to conjure and become The Apparitions. Here their intimate relationship in real life becomes, once again, a way to discuss what is at stake, personally and politically.
